Suspect in Hajtamiri abduction arrested in United States

Deshawn Davis apprehended Monday on unrelated warrant in California

A man wanted in relation to the abduction of Elnaz Hajtamiri has been arrested in the United States.

Deshawn Davis, wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for his involvement in the Jan. 12, 2022, abduction of Hajtamiri in Wasaga Beach, was arrested Monday on an unrelated warrant in Redway, Calif., by the U.S. Marshals Service, Huronia West OPP said in a news release.

Davis was added to the Bolo Program’s Canada’s 25 most wanted and the U.S. Marshals Service’s 15 most wanted fugitives lists this year.

On Jan. 12, 2022, at about 8:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an abduction from a home on Trailwood Place in Wasaga Beach. The suspects, who were described as three Black males dressed in police gear but not actual police uniforms, claimed to be there to arrest Hajtamiri. The homeowner became suspicious and tried to call 911, but he was overpowered and Hajtamiri was abducted.

The suspects fled in a white SUV, believed to be a Lexus RX. Hajtamiri has not been seen since the incident.

Hajtamiri, who was 37 at the time, also goes by the surname Tamiri. She is described as standing five-foot-three with a slim build and shoulder-length black hair.

Mohamad Lilo, a former boyfriend of Hajtamiri's, has been charged with her murder. He was first arrested in July 2022 and charged with kidnapping. The Crown Attorney charged Lilo, by way of direct indictment, with first-degree murder in November, 2023. His case is before the courts.
