A Collingwood man faces drunk driving charges and more following an incident on one of the Highway 26 roundabouts this weekend.
According to Huronia West OPP, officers were called to a single-vehicle collision on the Highway 26-Mosley Street roundabout around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3.
A witness told police a vehicle sped into the roundabout crashed into the yield sign, and kept on driving.
"A short time later, the vehicle was located by an officer on a dead-end road, unoccupied, and with damage to the front end consistent with the initial crash," states a police news release posted to social media.
Police spotted a man running away and pursued him on foot. Officers caught up to the man and arrested him.
A 54-year-old Collingwood man was charged with:
- operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs,
- operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
- operation while prohibited under the criminal code,
- fail to report accident,
- fail to remain, and
- fail to report damage to property on highway.
The male also had an arrest warrant with Collingwood OPP for an unrelated matter, say police.
The charges have not been proven in court, and the accused is scheduled to appear in Collingwood court on Aug. 27.
