Grey Highlands Deputy Mayor Aakash Desai plans to introduce a motion to establish a dress code for council.

The deputy mayor signaled his intention at council’s meeting on July 6.

“I’m going to provide notice of motion that we implement a dress code,” said Desai, who said it would apply to council and committee of the whole meetings.

Council dress codes have been in the news recently. Sarnia Coun. Nathan Colquhoun made national headlines when he wore a tank top and fedora to a council debate on a dress code.

“No shirt, no shoes, no council,” Mayor Paul McQueen joked after Desai announced his notice.

The resolution will come before council at its regular meeting on July 20.
