Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers recently visited Royal Canadian Legion Branch #333 Flesherton-Markdale to check out upgrades at the facility located in Flesherton.

Byers met with executive members of the branch to hear from them about the impact of a $39,700 grant the branch received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The grant funding was used to update the legion’s kitchen facilities and the building’s overall accessibility to ensure it will continue to provide the community with a modern, safe and functional space for veterans, seniors and other community groups.

“Congratulations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 333 Flesherton-Markdale on recognizing the Ontario Trillium Foundation grant that helped to update the legion’s kitchen” said Byers in a news release.

The legion’s modernized kitchen includes a number of new appliances including: new ranges, commercial refrigerators and a commercial dishwasher. New food storage and prep areas have also been refreshed and new counters and sinks have been added.

The washrooms were enhanced to improve accessibility, and 40 new chairs were bought for the hall. The hall is used by a variety of community members and groups for meetings, celebrations, fundraisers and training venues.

“Thanks to the Ontario government’s Resilient Communities Fund grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we can now accommodate and serve our community better,” said Darren Reid, President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #333 Flesherton-Markdale in the news release. “Without the support we received through this grant, we could not have done this project. This grant has allowed us to provide our community with a modern and safe space.”
