Sergeant Debra Anderson will be the new acting detachment commander for Grey-Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) beginning Feb. 1.
“I have spent my OPP career mostly in Wellington County, but I was very happy to get an opportunity to come up and work in Grey County,” said Sgt. Anderson.
Anderson introduced herself to the Grey Highlands Police Services Board (PSB) at a meeting held on Tuesday. She will be stepping into the role of interim detachment commander beginning on Feb. 1 for at least the next three months.
The role was previously held by OPP Sgt. Paul Chambers, who will be relocating to Wellington County.
Anderson has been working in law enforcement for the past 34 years. She began her career with the military police before moving into municipal policing and eventually joining the OPP.
Previous to this role, Anderson served as the Street Crime Sergeant in Wellington County and has been working behind-the-scenes in Grey County for the past year.
“I've been here for a year now as the office manager,” she said. “My husband, my daughter and my mother, we've moved into a house in the Grey Highlands. It is a beautiful area, and we are very happy to be here,” she added.
At the meeting held on Tuesday, the Grey Highlands PSB also elected Lynn Silverton as the board chair and Daryl Minifie as the board vice-chair for 2021.
