Kimberley Hall has been closed for the time being until repairs to the building can be made.

Grey Highlands council has approved major repair work at Kimberley Hall.

At its meeting on March 20, council gave the thumbs up to a plan to spend $85,000 for masonry repairs for Kimberley Hall.

The building, which is home to one of the municipality’s three library branches, has been closed for several weeks after a serious maintenance issue was identified.

On March 5, the municipality’s engineering firm completed a building envelope study for Kimberley Hall. The report detailed a number of major issues in the building.

“The engineer's Building Envelope Study identified deficiencies throughout the building, with the most critical being the potential collapse of the bricks at the front of the building,” a report from municipal staff to council stated.

Staff sought quotes from contractors for the work required. AGW Construction was selected at a cost of approximately $85,000. The company recently completed work for Grey Highlands at Maxwell Hall.

Council voted 7-0 in favour of getting the work done. A funding source for the $85,000 has not been identified in the 2024 draft budget. Council will make a decision on the source of financing for the project at a special budget meeting on March 26.
