Grey Highlands council debuted a new council chambers format on Oct. 18.

Grey Highlands council meetings have a new look.

At its meeting on Oct. 18, Grey Highlands debuted a potential new setup for its council chambers. The new configuration saw the semi-horseshoe formation of council desks replaced with long tables with members of council and the clerk and CAO seated in front of Mayor Paul McQueen.

The new council chambers format also placed large television screens at the front of the room allowing for more accessible viewing of those participating in the meeting virtually.

The new format also expanded the space for staff, public and media seating.

At the opening of the meeting, Clerk Raylene Martell explained that the new setup was a trial run using temporary tables to test the functionality of the format. She said if council likes the setup, staff would move forward to install permanent tables/desks.

Martell also said that once a setup for the council chambers is decided and is functional, staff would make improvements to the audio/video equipment for meetings.

McQueen also asked members of council their thoughts on the setup.

“It’s a trial run. I can see all of council and staff, that is the part I feel is very positive,” he said.

Deputy Mayor Dane Nielsen called the changes “fantastic.”
