Grey County and the Town of The Blue Mountains are entering an agreement for the replacement of the town’s water booster station located at the corner of Grey Roads 19 and 21.
County council at its committee of the whole meeting on July 14 approved a staff report that recommends county officials enter a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the town for the booster station project.
Director of Transportation Services Pay Hoy explained in the report that a roundabout planned for the intersection of the two county roads is the reason the station must be replaced. The project has been in the works for several years.
The county is splitting costs on the roundabout with Simcoe County, but Simcoe is not willing to fund the booster station portion of the project. Hoy said staff are in the early stages of designing the project, but estimated it would cost at least $2 million. TBM is providing $1 million in funding for the booster station project, as the facility will be upgraded and updated during the construction.
The county plans to fund 75 per cent of the project through development charges.
“It’s a good news story. It wasn’t the easiest thing to get to,” Hoy said of the agreement. “It’s still a long haul to go.”
"The MOU also notes that the county will retain the consultant to design the booster station project on behalf of the town and, if required by the town, administer the construction contract for the booster station project on behalf of the town but the town would be ultimately responsible for the oversight and approval of the booster station project,” stated the county report.
