The Pride crosswalk in Thornbury in front of Beaver Valley Community School has been vandalized.
The Town of The Blue Mountains announced the act of vandalism in a news release on July 7. The crosswalk was vandalized by tire tracks from a vehicle. Town staff have arranged for the removal of the markings on the crosswalk.
“We are very disappointed that this incident has occurred and in particular right in front of our children’s school,” said Mayor Andrea Matrosovs. “The Town of The Blue Mountains is proud to be an inclusive community, and we strongly condemn these actions. Now more than ever, we need to send a message that our town is inclusive and welcomes everyone who lives or visits here.”
The town is working with the local OPP on this matter. If any person witnessed or has knowledge of the persons responsible, they are asked to contact The Blue Mountains OPP Detachment at (519) 599-6644. Alternatively, anonymous information can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS). A secure tip can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers website here.
Three Pride crosswalks were installed in The Blue Mountains in 2022 with financial support from the Blue Mountains Chamber of Commerce and the Rainbow Club of South Georgian Bay. The crosswalks were installed to display the town’s commitment to welcoming all to the community.
