Residents of the Municipality of Grey Highlands now have access to the services of Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART).
The door-to-door vehicle service is available to residents who cannot travel by conventional means because of their physical or mental challenges.
Challenges can include the required use of crutches, a cane, a walker, a wheelchair, visual impairments, cognitive impairments or developmental challenges. Challenges can be temporary or seasonal in nature.
The service is available from Monday to Saturday, with destinations available up to 20 kilometres outside of SMART service areas and to select dialysis clinics.
The service is $2 per trip plus $.55 cents/km, with a minimum charge of $7.50 per trip. Users can register online at the SMART website. To learn more, call 519-881-2504 or visit the website.
In the 2022 municipal budget, Grey Highlands council approved a one-year trial with SMART for a total cost of $24,000. The service launched in the municipality on May 1.
