The Town of The Blue Mountains will be holding a public information centre on its Wastewater Master Plan on Feb. 26.

The virtual public information centre on the plan will be held via Microsoft Teams on Feb. 26 beginning at 5 p.m. Details about how to view the meeting and register can be found online here.

The has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) to complete a Wastewater Master Plan for the town’s wastewater collection and treatment system.

The plan will provide guidance on short and long-term wastewater infrastructure improvements within the urban boundary of the town.

This study is being conducted according to the requirements of Phases 1 and 2 of the MCEA process, which is an approved process under the Environmental Assessment Act.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the town’s long-term wastewater treatment and collection system needs and identify a preferred solution to be implemented to improve the system to accommodate the town’s future growth.

This process will help to identify system requirements and assist with long-term capital planning. Public and agency consultation is a key element of the process and input will be sought throughout the study to inform the evaluation and selection of the preferred wastewater servicing strategy.

The plan is being completed as an Approach 2 Master Plan with sufficient detail to fulfil the requirements for Schedule ‘B’ projects (new or upgraded sewage pumping stations, force mains, etc.).

Existing and future collection and treatment system deficiencies (Phase 1 of the Master Plan) were presented during Public Information Centre #1 held on May 23, 2024. As part of Phase 2 of this Master Plan, the town is developing a set of infrastructure improvements required for future sanitary servicing needs, as well as proposed phasing for the implementation of these projects. Public Information Centre #2 is being held to present these proposed servicing alternatives and to gather input from members of the public.
