Anthony (Tony) Bauer has been named the Town of The Blue Mountains Senior of the Year for 2022.

The Blue Mountains Mayor Alar Soever made the announcement at council’s meeting on June 20. Soever presented the award to Mr. Bauer at his home on June 17.

“Tony is a big contributor to our community,” said Soever.

Soever said Bauer had helped organize a series of jazz concerts in town that resulted in $30,000 in proceeds being donated to music development for local young people.

“It’s people like Tony who make our community a great place,” said Soever. “It was my honour to be there on Friday.”

Soever said the Senior of the Year is a provincial award and every municipality gets to nominate a worthy senior each year. He proudly noted that there were many nominations in The Blue Mountains for 2022.

Mr. Bauer was unable to attend the council meeting for the announcement, but sent a statement for Clerk Corrina Giles to read at the meeting.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mayor Soever for having presented the award personally. I thank council for the consideration and recognition to select me as Senior of the Year. It is greatly appreciated,” said Bauer. “It is a pleasure and privilege to have contributed to the community and to be able to live in Thornbury and the Town of The Blue Mountains.”
