The Blue Mountains council has approved a new corporate structure for the town.

At a special committee of the whole meeting on June 17, CAO Shawn Everitt delivered a long-awaited report that outlines the new corporate structure for the town.

The report recommends the town proceed into the future with six departments: administration, community services, corporate and financial services, operations, planning and building services and strategic initiatives.

The biggest change in the report is the creation of the strategic initiatives department. A director position will be created for that department, replacing the former position of director of legal services.

The report recommends that the new structure be implemented in phases over the next two years. The new structure does include the creation of several new staff positions, depending on how council chooses to proceed in various areas. The full list of potential new positions can be found online here.

“The overall cost is not substantial, most of these positions already exist,” Everitt said.

The CAO said the report was a “long time coming” and had been delayed as the town worked to recruit a new Director of Operations and also due to the town having two senior positions in the finance department open at the moment.

“I’m excited about the way forward,” Mayor Andrea Matrosovs said of the new structure.

The CAO thanked council and staff for their hard work on the project.

“My thanks to council on the amount of time you spent on this project. You each had individual interviews,” said Everitt, who also praised staff for their role in the report. “Our staff have been exceptional through this process. These are scary things to go through. Staff have great ideas and the process will continue to allow them to come forward with great ideas.”

The CAO said he looks forward to getting the new structure fully in place.

“I think it’s going to put us in a very good position moving forward,” he said.

Council unanimously approved the report and recommendations.
