The Town of The Blue Mountains is out $15,000 after a sudden tractor repair.

At its meeting on June 3, The Blue Mountain council approved spending $15,000 on an emergency repair to a parks and trails department tractors.

Staff reported to council that a failed bearing in the hydrostatic transmission caused damage to the gears on the town’s Kubota 6060 tractor.

The repair was not a budgeted expense and will be funded through the town’s community services reserve.

“It’s a critical piece of parks equipment,” said Ryan Gibbons, community services director.

The machine is used for grass cutting, trail maintenance and snow removal during the winter months. The work on the repair has been completed by the dealer of the machine.

Councillors Gail Ardiel and Shawn McKinlay asked about the age of the tractor and wondered if it was time to begin planning in the budget for its replacement.

Gibbons said the machine is 10 years old and is on the asset replacement list in the next year or two.
