Two candidates for Mayor in Grey Highlands

The election race in the Municipality of Grey Highlands is heating up.

Two candidates for mayor have registered to run in this fall’s election and a new candidate for deputy mayor has put their name on the ballot.

Incumbent councillor Danielle Valiquette is seeking the mayor’s chair this fall and she is joined in the race by newcomer Don Alp.

In the race for the deputy mayor’s chair, incumbent councillor Dane Nielsen is being challenged by newcomer Stephen (Steve) Patrick Maloney.

Seeking council seats in Grey Highlands are Lynn Silverton and Dan Wickens.

Grey Highlands also has a new school board candidate. Saveria Caruso is running for Conseil Scolaire Viamonde Sector 5 trustee position, which includes Bruce, Grey, Simcoe and Dufferin counties. Caruso joins Eric LaPointe in the race.

Two candidates are seeking the English Trustee position on the Grey Bruce Catholic District School Board: Jocelin Rivest and Robyn Garvey Wiseman.

In The Blue Mountains, a new candidate has filed nomination papers to seek a councillor’s seat. June Porter has joined incumbent Paula Hope and newcomer Shawn McKinlay in the race for councillor seats. Incumbent councillor Andrea Matrosovs remains the only candidate for mayor. At this point, there are no candidates for deputy mayor in The Blue Mountains.

Three candidates have now registered for the English trustee seat on the Grey Bruce Catholic District School Board. Tammy Willis is the newest candidate, joining Michael Black and Bruce Muise.

Incumbent Frances Morgan is running again to represent The Blue Mountains and the Municipality of Meaford on the Bluewater District School Board.

Sylvie C. Barbeau-Chmielewski is the lone candidate for the Conseil scolaire catholique Providence Trustee - French Separate position.

Those interested in running in the election have until August 19 to file their nomination papers. The election will be held on October 22, 2022.
