Collingwood town staff and council are inviting residents to two upcoming discussions focused on the future of the downtown.

While there are always plans being made, the Town of Collingwood has recently adopted the latest version of its multi-year strategic plan to guide decision-making and resource allocation from 2024 to 2028.

The plan will be available to read soon via the town's website.

Currently, work continues on a downtown-specific plan. The town and Downtown Collingwood Business Improvement Area (BIA) have partnered for the work, which includes two upcoming public sessions.

Called the Downtown Visioning Master Plan, the new document will be a vision for the long-term evolution of Collingwood's downtown area through 2051. The plan will include analysis of the "opportunity sites," a "vision map" and recommendations for how to achieve the vision through projects and other action items.

The consultant leading the downtown visioning plan project is Fotenn Planning + Design.  There was a public survey this spring, which will inform a draft plan to be presented to the public next week on Sept. 5.

There will be two sessions aimed at engaging residents with the draft plan and drumming up more suggestions and feedback for the master plan.

The sessions take place Sept. 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 84 Hurontario Street (the downtown parkette), or if there's rain they'll be moved to the council chambers at town hall.

According to a town news release, the first session will be informal and include interactive opportunities for attendees. The second session will be more formal with a presentation at 5:30 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and engaged by subscribing to updates and future engagement opportunities through engage.collingwood.ca/strategic-plan.

The Collingwood Downtown BIA is also currently developing its organizational Strategic Plan which is a separate process from the Downtown Visioning Master Plan engagement. For questions about this project please contact General Manager, Susan Nicholson, at snicholson@collingwooddowntown.com.
