A Collingwood church is hosting a panel of people who are working toward solutions to the affordable housing crisis, and the discussion is open to the public, who will have opportunity to ask questions at the end.

Trinity United Church is hosting the public meeting about affordable housing on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The panellists include Dough Linton, former chair and current member of the affordable housing task force; Claire de Souza, the town's housing development coordinator; and Jack Vanderkooy, from the Institute of Southern Georgian Bay.

Linton is tasked with discussing the misunderstandings around what affordable housing is, as well as communicating the previous role and current mandate of the town's affordable housing task force. He will also give some practical steps for how members of the public can get involved with affordable housing planning and work in Collingwood.

Collingwood's development coordinator will provide an overview of the town's plan for affordable housing, the role of municipal government in the issue, and the town's current initiatives that support affordable housing.

Vanderkooy will explain the Institute of Southern Georgian Bay's focus on encouraging collaboration between community members and municipalities, and describe financing solutions for our affordable housing crisis.

There will be a question-and-answer session moderated by Terry Geddes, former Collingwood mayor and educator, to follow the panel presentations.

The affordable housing discussion is part of the Trinity Talks series of occasional public meetings.

Admission is free. Trinity United Chuch is located at 140 Maple Street, but parking is off Beech Street behind the building.
