Part of Hurontario Street downtown Collingwood was closed on Saturday evening for a "secret posh picnic" tradition that goes back 30 years to a Paris, France event.

The event is called Le Diner en Blanc, and it is hosted in several cities across the world, including in Collingwood for four years. The event involves a large outdoor picnic with guests and tables dressed all in white.

The location changes each year and is kept a secret from the guests who find out the night of the event as they ride a bus or walk to the location. It's been on Simcoe Street in Collingwood before and on Aug. 17 it took place on Hurontario Street in front of town hall.

The host for the South Georgian Bay event was Amy Milne.

The event is invite-only, but leading up to the dinner, anyone can sign up for the "third-phase" of registration for a chance to be invited.

Each guest pays a fee and is told to bring a table, two white chairs and a white tablecloth plus a picnic basket with their "fine food, proper stemware and white dinnerware."

Catered picnic baskets and table rentals were offered this year.

The street and Sidewalk on Hurontario Street from Second to Third Street was closed on Aug. 17 from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m for the event.
