The month of September will be key for the local women's and children's shelter as multiple local businesses and people host fundraising events in support of the shelter.

The latest event announced as part of the month-long Paint the Town Red Campaign is the HeArt of Red Gala presented by Studio Ciel at Side Launch Brewing Company in Collingwood.

The gala, which includes an art auction takes place Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Half of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to My Friend's House, which is a Collingwood-based women and children's shelter.

Artists featured in the auction include Kelly Gale, Sue and John Burton, Jason Alexander and Kara McIntosh.

There will be drinks and horse d'oeuvres plus live music by Karla Crawford trio.

Details of the event are posted on the My Friend's House website here.

According to a news release from My Friend's House, there were over 4,500 calls to the 24/7 crisis line in 2023. The shelter aims to raise over $800,000 this year to help fund programming, cover the increased needs from rapid population growth and bridge the gap between costs and government funding.

About My Friend’s House

My Friend's House is a non-profit agency offering support for abused women and children living in the Georgian Triangle of Ontario. Since opening in 1991, My Friend's  House has helped thousands of women get the safety and support they need to rebuild their lives.

The shelter serves 600 women and their children each year – 200 through the shelter program and the balance through our outreach, transition and children's programs.

The free, confidential services are available to all women and their children across the  Georgian Triangle – from Wasaga Beach and Collingwood to Creemore and Meaford and all parts in between.
