Home sales in Collingwood and area continued to break sales records in September with almost a 60 per cent increase in units sold in September 2020 compared to 2019.
Last month residential sales in the Southern Georgian Bay region were also up by 60 per cent compared to the same period in 2019. At that time, the local realtor’s association indicated the region was experiencing the “tightest market on record.”
The president of the Southern Georgian Bay Association of Realtors, Mike Scholte, noted the tight market continues with low numbers of new listings and better-than-average demand.
According to data from MLS, there were 627 residential units sold in September 2020 in Southern Georgian Bay, which is an increase of 57.9 per cent compared to September 2019.
“Georgian Bay market activity continued to outperform expectations in September,” stated Scholte in a press release from the Southern Georgian Bay Association of Realtors.
Home sales in the region added up to a total value of $445.2 million for September 2020, more than double when compared to September 2019, and a new September record.
However, according to the Southern Georgian Bay Association of Realtors press release, there were only 806 active residential listings in the region by the end of last month, which is 54.5 per cent fewer listings than the same time last year.
Of all the sales in the area, 333 units were located in the western half of the region, which includes Wasaga Beach, Clearview, Collingwood, The Blue Mountains, Meaford, and Grey Highlands. Sales in the west are up by 49 per cent in September 2020 compared to the same month in 2019, and are up 21 per cent year-to-date.
There were 294 units sold in the eastern half of the region, which includes Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay, Tiny, Severn, and Georgian Bay Township. This is an even bigger increase of 69 per cent for September 2020 compared to September 2019, and a year-to-date increase of 27 per cent.
