Leisure Time Club gets provincial cash for seniors' programs

Collingwood and Wasaga senior's centres each receive $51,137 in annual funding

Simcoe-Grey Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Brian Saunderson announced $102,274 split between two seniors' centres in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach in support of programming. 

The Collingwood Lesure Time Club and the Town of Wasaga Beach's Seniors' Active Living Centre received $51,137 each recently to help fund programming for fitness and social activities. 

According to a news release from the MPP's office, the funding is annual. 

“Our senior active living centres are an important part of the community,” said MPP  Brian Saunderson. “They bring seniors and the whole community together with services,  activities and programs that make sure our seniors stay connected all year long.” 

About the Town of Wasaga Beach Seniors Active Living Centre

The Senior Active Living Centre is located in Wasaga Beach and serves 658 older adults and seniors. Programming is offered in-person and includes music jam, healthy aging, social walking club, arts and crafts and social chats and games. 

About the Collingwood Leisure Time Club

The Collingwood Leisure Time Club is located in Collingwood and serves over 600 older adults and seniors. Programing is offered in-person and includes a variety of activities such as; pickleball, exercise, duplicate bridge, carpet bowling, games and special workshops and seminars geared to older adults. 

The provincial government has been touting its $15-million investment in Ontario seniors' centre this month, which is also seniors' month. 

The funding is given annually so 316 seniors' active living centres in the province, but has increased by nearly 10 per cent this year compared to last year. 

According to the provincial government, population estimates predict an increase from 2.8 million seniors (18.4 per cent of the population) in 2022 to 4.4 million seniors (20.3 per cent of the population) by 2046.
