March Break is around the corner (March 13-17) and the Collingwood Public Library wants to help you plan a fun-filled week for your children and teens.

“We are excited about the no-cost programs we have to offer this coming March Break,” said Nicole Malpica, coordinator, children’s services. “There are a variety of options for children and youth, aged 3 to 18 years, to participate in.”

Check the website calendar for details as some programs have limited space and require registration, while others are drop-in.

Children’s events include:

  • Take-home story time kits – starting Monday, March 6 at 1 p.m. (while supplies last)
  • Mario I Spy – Monday, March 13 at 2 p.m. to Friday, March 17 at 4:30 p.m. – drop-in
  • Mario Kart night – Monday, March 13 at 6 p.m. (ages 8 to 12) – register

“This year, the library wanted to bridge the gap between generations and show that March Break is a time for everyone to embrace springtime, and enjoy each other's company.” said Gia Lynde, coordinator, youth services. “This has led to two collaborative programs: one including children and youth, and the other youth and adults.”

With a Springtime and St. Patrick’s Day theme, a program called “A Little Lucky” for children and teens, will take place over two days. On the first day, participants aged 8 to 18 years will join us in decorating their own flowerpots. On the second day, participants will return to do some gardening and preparing shamrock plants for their decorated flowerpots. Materials are provided by the library. This program takes place on Tuesday, March 14 and Thursday, March 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. Registration is required. A fun craft to take home.

“Sew Lucky,” for youth and adults, is an embroidery program designed for all skill levels. Participants aged 13 years or older, regardless of embroidery experience, will join us at the library to learn basic stitches, discuss the art of embroidery, and create a St. Patrick’s Day-themed project. There will be varying degrees of expertise for participants to learn and feel confident in their crafts. This program takes place on Thursday, March 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Materials are provided by the library. Registration is required as space is limited.

One last thing! Be sure to check out our new spectacular exhibit displayed in the Art Walk and Bridge Gallery by talented artist, Merryn Edgar. Her spring colours on canvas feed the spirit and are a breath of fresh air. We truly have something for everyone at the library this coming March Break, drop by we’d love to see you.
