The Town of Collingwood's shared accessible transit system has seen a 150 per cent increase in clients in its first two months of operation.
TransitPLUS, which serves Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Clearview Township began in December with about 80 clients and now has about 200 registered clients, according to a news release from the town. The service is a consolidation of other accessbile transit services including the former accessible taxi and Red Cross shuttle.
When the service first launched, Collingwood's transit coordinator Kris Wiszniak said registration was going well, with many clients signing on for the door-to-door service.
Wiszniak said one of the factors contributing to the increase in registered riders is that the previous service under Red Cross did not accommodate clients under 18 years old, whereas the new service does.
Riders are required to pre-register to use TransitPLUS.
The town is encouraging more ridership by offering an information session and test ride opportunity on Feb. 25 from noon to 2 p.m. at 50 Sandford Fleming Drive.
The session will allow anyone to learn about the TransitPLUS service, and practice onboarding and off-boarding from the vehicle.
