A new development in Collingwood’s south end will be coming up for a public meeting soon, following notice the developer behind it had completed their application this week.
The Gateway Centre land, at 853 and 869 Hurontario Street and 7654 Poplar Sideroad, is currently vacant aside from one single detached home on the north-east corner of Hurontario and Poplar Side Road. But perhaps, not for long.
The proposal for the land, which is owned by Charis Developments Ltd. and Assaff Investments Ltd., includes plans for a phased development consisting of seven buildings.
The buildings will be constructed in three phases and include a variety of uses such as retail commercial establishments, a pharmacy, a supermarket and a 12-storey mixed-use building containing up to 165 residential dwelling units.
The developer will be requesting a zoning bylaw amendment and an Official Plan amendment from the town and County of Simcoe, as the land is current zoned for highway commercial use and residential. The developer is seeking to have the entire land parcel rezoned as mixed-use.
The elevation drawings submitted as part of the application package show a Dollarama, a McDonald’s, a Pet Valu and a Starbucks.
The town has not yet set a date for a public meeting.
