A man has died after drowning at Wasaga Beach on the weekend.

Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an emergency call on June 16 around 1:50 for a report of a drowning off the shore of Allenwood Beach, east of the Nottawasaga River in Wasaga Beach.

A man had been seen falling off a paddle board and then attempting to swim to shore.

"The individual was reportedly no longer visible in the water after their paddle board was blown away," stated a police release.

Police say the 61-year-old was found at about 2 p.m submerged in the water. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The OPP responded to the call with the marine unit, helicopters and Wasaga Beach Fire and Rescue.

Police are reminding people to wear lifejackets or personal floatation devices when on the water in any kind of vessel.
