A Collingwood man has been charged with careless driving following a Friday morning crash in Springwater Township involving a school bus carrying 12 kids. Fortunately, none of the children were injured, police say.

Huronia West OPP officers, Simcoe County paramedics and Springwater Township firefighters responded to the call at 8:49 a.m. on Wilson Drive, south of Carson Road.

Police say the bus was travelling southbound on Wilson when a northbound flatbed tow truck veered around a disabled vehicle that was pulled over. The truck entered the southbound lane, side-swiping the oncoming bus.

The school bus was carrying 12 children at the time between the ages of four and 10. No one was injured and, after being cleared by paramedics, the students were transferred to another bus and taken to school.

Police remind drivers that when they come upon a disabled vehicle, you should slow down, change lanes if safe to do so when on a multi-lane roadway, and yield to other traffic as they proceed around the hazard.

The location of the crash is also near an area where a petition has been launched to improve safety at a nearby intersection. To read more on that story, click here
