Ontario Provincial Police say two inmates who were at large from the Beaver Creek Institute in Gravenhurst earlier this week are back in custody.
Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began conducting a search for the men on Wednesday evening.
Police say at around 7:15 p.m. Bracebridge OPP responded to a report from Beaver Creek Institute in Gravenhurst that inmates Michael Karas, 68, and Jay Sedore, 70, were unaccounted for during a scheduled head count at dinner.
The Muskoka Crime Unit with the assistance of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad and Toronto Police Service located the duo in a hotel shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday evening in the Greater Toronto Area.
Both were safely brought into police custody, according to a police news release.
Police earlier said both men have a violent criminal history. Sedore is serving an indeterminate sentence for first degree murder. Karas is serving a 15-year sentence for robbery, forcible confinement and use of an imitation firearm.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at crimestopperssdm.com.
