Police charge three people in domestic violence investigations yesterday

Police responded to a person walking into the Meaford detachment and to two calls to Southgate, all for reports of domestic violence

Ontario Provincial Police officers from the Grey Bruce detachment were called to three separate incidents for intimate partner violence investigations yesterday, Jan. 22. 

One of the investigations began when someone walked into the Meaford detachment to report an alleged incident of intimate partner violence. 

As a result, a 54-year-old Meaford man was charged with spousal assault with a weapon and two counts of mischief. 

The same day, police were called to a Southgate home, also for a report of intimate partner violence. 

A 36-year-old of no fixed address was charged with assault (spousal) and mischief. 

Both the accused will face their charges in court later. 

The third case on Jan. 22 also involved a call to police to respond to a Southgate home. 

A 27-year-old from Orangeville was charged with: 

  • Assault - spousal (four counts)
  • Assault cause bodily harm - choke, suffocate or strangle (two counts)
  • Failure to comply with undertaking (two counts)

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victims.
