If you are looking to return to L.E. Shore Public Library later this month, don’t forget your mask.

In order to enter the facility, face coverings will be mandatory and without expectation in an effort to protect patrons and the library collection.

“What we are doing is asking everyone who can to wear a mask to wear one, and if you can’t, we have face shields available and you will be required to wear a face shield,” says Blue Mountains Public Library (BMPL) CEO, Sabrina Saunders.

Saunders, who has a lung condition herself, says she empathizes with those who may have certain health conditions that create issues in wearing a mask, but the library simply cannot risk allowing people to enter without a face covering.

“At this point, this is the best way for us to ensure all of our materials are safe so that the person behind you, when they touch that book, they know it is still clean and safe,” she says.

BMPL has been working closely with the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit (GBHU) to establish its reopening strategy.

“We are actually going one step further than is required by GBHU. We spoke with them about it and they think it is a fantastic idea,” she says, adding that BMPL will re-evaluate the requirement for face coverings as the COVID situation continues to unfold.
