Collingwood artists, pull out those canvases and add your last minute touches, it’s time for the annual Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts (BMFA) Juried Art Show.

Submissions are now being accepted online until March 9 here.

The Juried Art Show is a competitive, submission-based exhibit featuring the works of area artists and students that have been selected by a panel of three jurors. The jurors select three winners in four categories (adult 2D and 3D and student 2D and 3D) and fill out the rest of the show with their top picks.

Thanks to a long list of community sponsors, the volunteer-run event can award cash prizes to each of the top three artists in each category.

Entries are only being accepted online this year, and they will, as always, be based on originality, technique, and composition. Judging will take place in two phases this year, the first step will be for judges to evaluate the works submitted online. They will then contact some artists to submit their physical work to the gallery for final judging.

This year’s judges include Marion Bartlett (sculptor), Mark Hope (landscape artist), and David Fisher, who won the adult 2D category last year.

Entry is free for high school students, $15 for BMFA members, and $25 for non-members. Each artist is allowed a maximum of two entries. The exhibition featuring the winners of this year’s show will be on display in the Simcoe Street gallery starting April 17.

This year’s 39th annual Juried Art Show opening reception and awards take place Sunday, April 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.
