Baton seized during traffic stop in Wasaga Beach

A report of a possibly impaired driver Thursday led to police seizing a weapon in Wasaga Beach.

At about 8:35 p.m., police were contacted about someone who appeared to be intoxicated while leaving a store and driving near 45th Street South and Knox Road.

Police pulled the vehicle over and arrested the driver. There were open beer cans in the vehicle, and police also seized a baton, Huronia West OPP said in a news release.

A 36-year-old Stayner man has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Windshield obstructed
  • Failure to produce a permit
  • Being a novice driver with a blood-alcohol content above zero
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

He has a Nov. 11 court date in Collingwood. His driver’s licence will be suspended for three days and the vehicle will be impounded for 45 days.
