OPP arrest three drivers for impaired driving this weekend

All three drivers were in their 20s and all were charged with operating a vehicle while having a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police arrested three people over the Canada Day long weekend on charges related to impaired driving. 

Starting on June 29 at 2:51 a.m. OPP officers spotted a vehicle in Dundalk with a burnt-out licence plate light.

According to a news release from the OPP, officers followed the vehicle and saw it making "jerky stops." Once police pulled over the driver and spoke to them, officers noted the smell of alcohol.

The 24-year-old from Southgate was arrested and charged with driving while blood alcohol concentration is 80-plus, and improper number plate light. The driver will face the charges in court later this month. 

The next day, June 30, at 11:47 p.m. officers responded to a crash on Rankin Bridge Road in Sauble Beach. Police spoke with the 22-year-old driver from Hamilton and again smelled alcohol.

The driver was arrested and charged with driving while blood alcohol concentration is 80 or above, operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs. The driver will face the charges in court later this month. 

On July 1 at 6:25 p.m. OPP received a tip that an intoxicated person had just left a residence. Police found the person driving a vehicle on Pashwood Drive in Saugeen First Nation.

Police smelled alcohol on the driver's breath, and arrested a 21-year-old from South Bruce on charges of operation while impaired, operation while blood alcohol concentration is 80 or over, and failing to comply with an undertaking. The driver will face the charges in court later this month. 

"If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it," states the news release from OPP. "The OPP relies on the public to report crime. Impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently."
