Grey Highlands residents have the opportunity to speak directly to council on Nov. 19.

Grey Highlands council will hold a town hall forum meeting on Nov. 19 at the Maxwell Hall starting at 7 p.m.

The town hall forum is an informal meeting that gives local residents the chance to speak to council about whatever issue may be on their minds that day or week. During this term of council, a number of town hall forums have been held at various locations around the municipality.

Previous town halls were held at Markdale, Flesherton, Kimberley, Rocklyn and Feversham.

There are no shortage of hot topic issues that could be raised at the town hall forum. Including:

  • Rising OPP costs. Grey Highlands is looking at a 21 per cent increase to its OPP costs in 2025. This equates to a 2.4 per cent local tax increase all on its own. Municipal leaders have been sounding the alarm about the OPP increases over the past several weeks.
  • The 2025 budget looks like it will again be a tough one for council. In 2024, after many meetings and hours of deliberations, council settled on a budget that included a 7.62 per cent local tax increase. The numbers aren’t projecting to be any easier for the 2025 budget.
  • The costs to repair local bridges. Grey Highlands council recently received a report about capital spending that will be needed over many years to upgrade and repair municipal bridges. Dealing with the issue won’t be easy.
  • Parking in local downtowns continues to be a big topic of conversation. Council is looking at introducing time limits for parking to encourage keeping the limited spaces open for shoppers and visitors.
  • Are mandatory septic system inspections coming for lakefront property owners in Grey Highlands? Council is considering the idea and it certainly will generate plenty of conversation in the community.

More information about the town hall forum can be found on the agenda here.
