The following letter was submitted in response to an article about a local senior being frustrated at the bicycle and e-bike traffic on local sidewalks.
I agree with the person who is upset about bikes being ridden on the sidewalks.
Bikes belong on the roads, with the exceptions noted in the article.
The question is, why are people riding on sidewalks?
Downtown on Hurontario St, I don't feel safe riding on the road, especially with the angled parking. I don't know whether drivers pulling out of a parking spot will actually see me.
I suspect that's true for people who ride on sidewalks anywhere in town.
If the town wants to encourage people to reduce car usage, they need to make people feel safe doing so and that goes for pedestrians as well as people on wheels.
